Weather Observation Log

← All field tools

Record your temperature, wind and rainfall readings in one field log.

Keep your own weather measurements, with temperature, rainfall-period and wind units attached to each observation. This tool does not fetch live weather.

Off by default. Enable to load or save this tool’s data. Other people using the browser may see it; export a backup. Disabling removes the saved copy but keeps this page’s entries.

Rows also show temperature in °C, precipitation in mm and wind in km/h for comparison. °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9; 1 inch = 25.4 mm; 1 mph = 1.609344 km/h; 1 m/s = 3.6 km/h; 1 knot = 1.852 km/h. Rainfall periods may overlap, so the tool does not add them into a rainfall total. Means describe entered readings, not a time-weighted climate average. Keep exposure and measuring technique consistent. Reference: National Weather Service observing handbook.

Entered observation and deployment dates support 1900–2100. These tools use the local dates you enter; they do not infer time zones or submit records to a monitoring programme.

Instructions

  1. Enter Observation date, Local time and Site / general location.
  2. Enter Air temperature and Temperature unit, then Precipitation over stated period with its unit and period.
  3. Add Observed wind speed, Wind speed unit and Wind from, then select Add record.
  4. Review the converted readings and use Export CSV, Download text or Print results.

Understanding your results

Each row keeps your original units and shows common units for comparison. A 24-hour rainfall reading and a one-hour reading describe different periods. Overlapping rainfall periods cannot simply be added, and the mean of your entered temperatures is not a daily climate average.

What to do if converted readings look unreasonable

Check the units before editing the numbers. A Fahrenheit value entered as Celsius gives a very different temperature. Keep sensor position, observation timing and measurement technique consistent so changes in method do not masquerade as changes in weather.

Using this tool in your browser

These entries are handled in your browser. Saving is off by default; enable the storage checkbox to retain this tool’s records on this device. Other people using the same browser may see them. Clearing site data removes the saved copy. Export a separate backup before changing devices or resetting entries.

Summary

This log records your measurements; it does not fetch a forecast or live weather data.
