Seasonal Nature Phenology Tracker

Track flowering, migration and other seasonal events in your observations.

Track a defined seasonal event at the same individual, patch or site. Record both “Yes” and “No” checks to make the timing of change more useful.

Off by default. Enable to load or save this tool’s data. Other people using the browser may see it; export a backup. Disabling removes the saved copy but keeps this page’s entries.
Add a record

Summaries group species, individual/patch, site, event and calendar year. First and last “Yes” are observation dates, not proven onset and end dates. The latest earlier “No” helps bracket the first observed “Yes”; gaps between visits remain unknown. “Uncertain” is retained but excluded from timing calculations. Seasons can cross New Year: calendar-year grouping is a browsing convention. Define the event consistently; consult the USA National Phenology Network’s phenophase guidance.

Entered observation and deployment dates support 1900–2100. These tools use the local dates you enter; they do not infer time zones or submit records to a monitoring programme.

Instructions

  1. Enter Observation date, Species or description, Individual / patch label and Site / general location.
  2. Define Seasonal event precisely, such as open flowers on your chosen plant.
  3. Set Event observed? to Yes, No or Uncertain, then select Add record.
  4. Repeat checks at the same patch and use Export CSV, Download text or Print results.

Understanding your results

The first Yes is the first date you observed the event, not necessarily the day it began. An earlier No helps narrow that interval. Summaries group the same species, patch, site, event and calendar year, so consistent labels matter.

What to do if one plant appears in separate summary groups

Check spelling and the patch, site and event labels. Use the same wording on repeat visits. A season crossing New Year is split by the calendar-year view; check both years before interpreting the start and end.

Using this tool in your browser

These entries are handled in your browser. Saving is off by default; enable the storage checkbox to retain this tool’s records on this device. Other people using the same browser may see them. Clearing site data removes the saved copy. Export a separate backup before changing devices or resetting entries.

Summary

Regular checks, including No observations, make seasonal timing more useful.
