Convert latitude and longitude between decimal degrees, DMM and DMS.
Decimal degrees use a minus sign for south and west. For DMM or DMS, enter nonnegative whole degrees and choose a hemisphere; minutes and seconds must be below 60. Latitude is limited to 90°, longitude to 180°. This changes notation only: it does not transform datums, grids or coordinate systems.
Instructions
- Choose Input format to match your original coordinates.
- For decimal degrees, enter signed Latitude degrees and Longitude degrees. For minutes-based formats, enter nonnegative whole degrees and choose the hemisphere.
- Fill the minutes and seconds fields that appear, then select Calculate.
- Use Copy results, Download results or Print to keep the converted notation.
Understanding your results
For example, 53.5° north is 53° 30′ north. These describe the same position in different formats. Conversion does not change the map datum, turn a grid reference into latitude and longitude or check whether your original location is correct.
What to do if the converter rejects minutes or seconds
Keep each below 60 and carry whole minutes or degrees into the next field. Check latitude is within 90° and longitude within 180°. In DMM or DMS, use the hemisphere selector instead of a negative degree value.
