Tigers are most often described as either an ambush or a streak. The word ambush refers to a group of tigers waiting quietly for prey to pass, while a streak describes tigers moving together as they run. You may also hear a group called a hide, the name given to tigers keeping out of sight in the shadows.
Both ambush and streak trace back to the way tigers actually behave. As ambush predators, they sit and wait for prey rather than chase it down, and when hunting they have been seen running in streaks across open ground.
