Habitat Comparison Worksheet Maker

← All field tools

Create a printable worksheet for comparing two habitats in the field.

Use the same observation time and method in both habitats. Record observations separately from ideas about why habitats differ. Leave unknown measurements blank; do not invent species counts. The prompts are starting questions, not claims about a particular site. Edit your observations below; changing the habitats keeps your notes. Entries last only until this page closes, so download a copy.

Instructions

  1. Choose Habitat A and Habitat B for the sites you want to compare.
  2. Enter Worksheet title and optional Observer / group, Place and Date.
  3. Select Generate, then complete the observation fields for each habitat.
  4. Use Download results or Print to keep your worksheet.

Understanding your results

Compare what you saw using equal observation time and the same method in each habitat. A larger species list after a longer visit is not a fair comparison. Keep observations separate from explanations: record a shaded ground layer before suggesting why it differs.

What to do if you do not have a measurement for a prompt

Leave that field blank or record that it was not measured. Do not invent a species count to complete the worksheet. Change the habitat choices if needed; existing observation notes are retained when habitats change.

Summary

A useful worksheet records the method as well as what your group discovered.
