How Far Can A Squirrel See?

Squirrels have excellent vision and can see very small movements from a long distance away. There’s no exact  answer to how far they can see, however, the squirrel eye seems to have excellent wide-angle vision and the ability to focus on objects across its entire retina.

What Do Squirrels See?

After a detailed study, researchers discovered that common gray tree squirrels have two-hued color vision. They process colors differently and may struggle to see some reds or greens that we detect.

Like people with color blindness, dogs see red and green as the same. However, they perceive more shades and tones of gray than most humans.

Besides their amazing vision, squirrels use their keen hearing and smell to spot predators and find food.

Squirrels have an amazing sense of smell. They can find nuts they buried months ago, even under a foot of snow. They can even smell the food in your house.

Can Squirrels See In The Dark?

Squirrels have poor night vision, making it risky for them to be active after dark. In comparison, their daytime vision is much clearer.
