Lions and tigers belong to the same family, Felidae. Although both are of the same family, their lives are very different. Lions and tigers differ in numerous ways, from their habitats, their diets, to their sizes and even their behavior.
Habitat
Lions live mainly in central, eastern, and southern Africa, whereas tigers inhabit southeast, northeast, and central Asia. Tigers thrive in dense woods and forests full of trees. Lions prefer savannahs and open grasslands.
Diet
Lions and Tigers are top predators in their environments, but their diets differ. Lions mainly eat medium-sized animals like zebra and wildebeest, while tigers go for larger prey such as antelope and buffalo. Lions consume about 5 to 7 kilograms daily, whereas tigers can eat up to 40 kilograms in one sitting!
Size
Tigers are generally larger than lions, being heavier and longer. However, size can vary, with some lions occasionally being larger than tigers and vice versa.
Physical Characteristics
Lions and tigers have distinct physical traits. Tigers feature unique dark brown stripes, but lions lack these markings. Male lions typically have a much larger mane.
Behavior
Lions and tigers behave differently. Lions are social; a dominant male leads a pride of females and their offspring. Tigers are solitary, often traveling alone or staying with their mother until mature.
