Hammerhead sharks are not typically aggressive towards humans and incidents involving hammerhead sharks and humans are rare. However, it is always best to not provoke or approach these majestic creatures, as they are wild animals.
Hammerhead sharks are a group of sharks known for their unique hammer-shaped heads. You can find them in tropical and temperate waters worldwide, including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
Why Do They Have Hammer-Shaped Heads?
Their unique head shape (cephalofoil) helps them detect prey better by increasing their ability to pick up electrical signals from other organisms.
The hammerhead’s shape enhances their flexibility and allows them to sense prey from every angle. With their wide-set eyes, electroreception, and cephalofoil, these sharks effectively find and capture prey.
What Do Hammerhead Sharks Eat?
Hammerhead sharks primarily eat fish, squid, and crabs, but their favorite meal is stingrays. These marine creatures can grow up to 20 feet and sometimes practice cannibalism, even consuming other hammerhead sharks.
